The ICRC is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the position of:

Radio Operator

.Contract type : Open ended

Duty Station:  ADEN


The Radio Operator operates the ICRC’s telecommunications equipment. S/he maintains radio contact and telecommunications between sites, vehicles and people so that the delegation can follow field movements in accordance with its programme and with security rules.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Follows communication and transmission activity via telecommunications equipment.
  • Ensures constant contact with people moving in the field and takes appropriate action as stipulated under security rules and internal guidelines.
  • Reporting any security related information including staff movements status in a daily basis.
  • Maintain of shifts rotations amongst the Radio room team.
  • Conduct Security Assessment and Media scanning prior to any movements.
  • Responsible for periodic security check with staff and Expats in a regular.
  • Proactively maintains information flow on security-related issues.
  • Updates lists of field movements, messages transmitted, etc.
  • Gives radio-related briefings if required.

Scope & Impact

•Provides services at the (sub-) delegation/office/assignment level (local remit).


• Mainly interacts with ICRC employees, but may have some external contacts.

• Strong relationship with Authorities as Security law enforcements, Operation Rooms, able to make contacts during emergencies.

Certifications/Education Required

  • Good command (spoken and written) of English.
  • Good computer MS Office knowledge
  • Vocational training in electronics, telecommunication, IT or similar field an asset.

Professional Experience Required

  • Strong knowledge of local areas and alternative routes of the country, particularly of the southern region as Shabwah, Abyan, Aden, Hadramout, Lahij, RSC and AlDhalea governorates etc.
  • Knowledge in operating through GIS, VTS, GPS and Google Map.
  • Some experience working with an INGOs or NGOs an asset.
